HI everyone,
there are 3 of these in my extended family right now, every and each of them with via nano CPU, since it has twice the cache of atom and faster FSB, I had not had the chance to compare it with its atom counterpart, however, the parameters speek for themselves.
finally I got all the important stuf going on this tiny laptop, so here is my report.
- for everyday, not CPU intensive tasks a very good choice.
- good build quality
- good price
- keyboard is full size !
- solid 3 hours of battery life
what I dislike
- to get the buit in mic to work, you need to disable pulse
- the SD card reader is not a SCSI device, I did not find a way to mount it at boot time so that I could use it as root partition
- the cooling fan is quite noisy
- forget about wine. if you run wine the xserver locks up and all you can do is hold the power button for long time enough to reboot it (with xorg openchrome driver, other drivers behave just the same way)
- and 1 more thing, again driver related, run a movie in any player, pause it, minimize it, maximize it, unpauze it, do it 2-3 times again, perhaps move around with the player window and you are guaranteed to lock up x server again.... anyone any solution?
devices working out of the box:
- both network interfaces
- bluetooth
- webcam
- card reader
- touchpad
some fiddling to be done:
to get cpu scaling working you need to add "e_powersaver" to /etc/modules.preload
then install powernowd and kick(uninstall) cpufreqd
reboot and off you go:
cat /proc/cpuinfo
